One of the best
opera houses in the world

The building was the first major building on the Vienna Ringstrasse but during World War II thre opera was set alight by a bombardment. Its reconstruction, completed in 1955, was financed by taxes, contributions, and U.S. Marshall Plan aid.Today, the Vienna State Opera is considered one of the most important opera houses in the world, with the largest repertoire: more than 300 productions a year! No trip to Vienna is complete without a visit to the Opera house and a performance.

Once a year, the stage and parquet of the State Opera transform into a large dance floor for a single night . The Vienna Opera Ball (Wiener Opernball in german) is, together with the New Year's Concert, the biggest Austrian society event taking place in the Vienna State Opera. One of the highlights of each Opera Ball is the opening and the dance performances by the Young Ladies and Young Men's Committee.
