The Palais Cavriani

A journey through the centuries, because Palais Cavriani is not only a place where history was written, but also a stage on which life has unfolded and continues to unfold in all its splendour - a real gem in the heart of Vienna.

The legacy begins

The origins of today's Palais Cavriani can be traced back to the 14th century, when it was initially owned by the von Kapellen family. Traces of the building fade after 1384 until it is mentioned again in the middle of the 16th century as "Mrs Pittichin House".

Over the decades, the property changed hands several times, from Hans Hartmann, the mint master, to Konrad von Pappenheim after Marshal Maximilian von Pappenheim acquired it.

The Cavriani era

Around 1605, Octavius Cavriani acquired the house and turned it into an entailed estate. As he remained childless, the inheritance passed to his nephew, Imperial Count Friedrich Cavriani. In 1723, Count Maximilian Cavriani had a palace built on the same site, which soon became one of the most magnificent aristocratic buildings of its time. With its high baroque architecture, Corinthian portals and elaborate window decorations on both façades, it became a landmark of baroque splendour.

Under the banner of Generali insurance

In 1923, the Palais came under the ownership of the Generali Insurance Company, which divided it into apartments and commercial spaces. On the third floor, there was the "Pension Vrtl," an accommodation for young men dedicated to their education in Vienna. Among its distinguished guests was Oskar Bronner.

The Pertschy-era begins

In the early 1960s, the Pertschy family took over the guesthouse with its 12 rooms. Over the years, the complex grew, and today the building presents itself as the renowned Palais Hotel Pertschy with 55 stylish rooms, accessible via a modern panoramic lift, while the building's original roof truss has survived the test of time.

Half a century of hospitality

In 2014, the Pertschy Palais Hotel celebrated its 50th anniversary. What once began as a modest bed and breakfast has developed into a first-class hotel. Despite the impressive development, the core values such as personalised guest service, reliability and a family atmosphere have remained unchanged and continue to shape the character of the hotel.
